PENCILS and INKS by COLORS by
This is Michael's bad ass chick, Hana Zetsumei. If you enjoy this pic then please comment his original drawing at the link below...

I colored this with the intent of mimicking my favorite toy line, G. I. JOE... the Night Force line to be exact. The Night Force were a bunch of G. I. JOE repaints (the most relevant and enjoyable IMO) circa 87-88, with more subdued 'nighttime' paint schemes.
Here is a breakdown of my coloring process:
If anyone remembers the old 80's G. I. JOE packaging, you may remember the red, yellow and white explosion behind the figure, which I have faithfully recreated for this piece. I did this by painting the background on bristol board with undiluted watercolours. Then I scanned it and touched it up in Photoshop CS.
I didn't want to change the character herself but if she was in the Night Force, this would be her costume! I chose a more militaristic color scheme because, well... I was in the military! I used an anime vexel coloring style in Photoshop CS.
I also uploaded an alternate version with a background that's a lot easier on the eyes, here... [link]
